JANUARY 2024 TOOLKIT

New Year's Resolutions (Nutrition, Health, and Wellness)

At the start of a new year, many Americans make resolutions to focus on healthy habits. See how @USDA_NIFA-supported Hatch Multistate projects impact our health & nutrition: https://bit.ly/MRF-Health #resolutions #health #healthyeating

National Oatmeal Month

It's #NationalOatmealMonth! Browse our impact statements on grains, produce & nuts to see how research is improving oats & your favorite oatmeal toppings: https://bit.ly/MRF-oatmeal

National Hot Tea Month

To make U.S. tea production more efficient, @MSU_AG scientists calculated optimal nitrogen rates for tea plants grown in nurseries. This helps growers avoid over-applying fertilizer and wasting time and money. Learn more: http://bit.ly/MRF-NC1186 #NationalHotTeaMonth

Land-grant university research has tea-rrific impacts: @UConnCAHNR found that green tea can help remove bad cholesterol from the body & fight inflammation and @CFAES_OSU found that green tea can lower risk of liver inflammation & damage due to fatty liver. http://bit.ly/MRF-Bioavailabilty #HotTeaMonth #NIFAimpacts #AgIsAmerica

January 5: National Bird Day

Birds can help farmers with pest control. For example, as part of a multistate project on plants’ natural defenses against pests, @UDcanr found that chemicals emitted by corn plants attract birds that feed on fall armyworm caterpillars. Learn more: http://bit.ly/chemical-ecology #NationalBirdDay

Here’s some bird research to tweet about! As part of a multistate project on the economic, environmental & social benefits of outdoor recreation @NCStateCALS helped promote birding tourism & helped rural businesses market to birders. http://bit.ly/MRF-GreenSpaces #NationalBirdDay #birding

Beans have been a food staple for millennia. Research is making sure we can sustainably grow and enjoy beans for years to come by making beans more resistant to pests, diseases & drought, enhancing the nutrient content of beans, and creating new bean-based food products: https://bit.ly/MRF-breeding-beans #NationalBeanDay

As part of a multistate research project improving bean production, @UNL_CASNR @UNL_AgResearch @UPR_Oficial @uwyoag @unl_agresearch & @udcanr scientists developed beans that are resistant to #drought, heat, flooding, and diseases. Learn more: https://bit.ly/MRF-breeding-beans #NationalBeanDay

It’s #NationalBeanDay! Through scientific studies, #landgrantuniversities have shown the many health benefits of beans. For example, @UNL_CASNR showed that pinto beans can help lower cholesterol and @CSUAgSci found that beans can reduce visceral fat. https://bit.ly/MRF-breeding-beans
